Welcome to the world or WordPress! I’ve been familiar with it for a while, but for those of you who have never tried it before, let me give you a brief overview on how it can be used in your classroom.
For starters, it is a great tool for introducing students to basic web-building. The modern version of WordPress is incredibly user-friendly, and allows the user to construct and mold their site to the style and shape that they would like. Not only that, but when you do so there is the option to look at the underlying HTML code, and see how exactly the site is structured. This makes it a fantastic way to get students familiar with web design basics, and to have them learn the basics while also getting the chance to make it very much their own.
Additionally, WordPress is one of the most common blogging sites around! It is easy to make your own site and put your own blog up, and students can then share the blog link with a class so to see how each of them create their own blogging styles. How I am writing right now is it’s own style after all; I am talking to you as though we are in the same room, giving a very personal feel to the reading style. The ability to flex one’s creative muscles is a cornerstone of blogging as a medium, and WordPress allows that to happen in any way you may like.
